Every single personal computer or server is run by an Operating System - the low-level program which communicates with the hardware equipment, including peripheral devices such as a mouse or a printer, together with any applications that are currently installed on the system. Any program input through a command line or a Graphical User Interface (GUI) is processed by sending an Application Program Interface (API) request to the OS. On a server, every single application runs within the parameters set by the OS as well - priority, physical memory, processing time, and so on. This is valid for both standard Internet site scripts and server-side software like a media server. In case a virtual server is set up on a physical one, there can be two separate Operating Systems, called guest OS and host OS, so you can set up a different software environment on the very same machine.
Multiple OS in VPS Servers
Our VPS server solutions feature three Linux releases which you may choose from for the Operating System of your new web server - Debian, Ubuntu and CentOS. Aside from being free, the OSs are extremely stable and secure and the main reason to offer you the three of them is to ensure that you will be able to run any application that you would like, because different pieces of software may have different requirements regarding the environment they can be used on. Each one of the three OSs is backed by a huge community of web developers who have created many hundreds of software packages which you can set up and use on your VPS. Based on the Operating System which you choose, you will also be able to choose between three different Control Panels to handle your website hosting content. Needless to say, if you decide that you need a different OS, we could always reinstall the server with it. As a paid upgrade, we also provide weekly updates of the Operating System for optimum stability and security.
Multiple OS in Dedicated Servers
In case you decide to purchase one of our dedicated servers, you will find three Operating Systems on the registration page as we want to give you a larger choice for the system environment on the server as different applications can have particular requirements. CentOS, Ubuntu and Debian come with different modules developed by their vast support communities, so you can select any of these OSs and take advantage of a stable and risk-free Internet hosting service. Based on your decision, you'll also have different Control Panels to choose from. Needless to say, we can always change the Operating System if the one you've selected initially doesn't meet the requirements of the software that you intend to run. We can also update the OS routinely in order to keep it as secure as possible through our Managed Services upgrade package.
